Everyone is unique and everyone belongs. Together we are a community. We have much in common AND it is our little differences that make our community vibrant and interesting.
We are social by nature. There are simple things you can do to make connections and keep connected. Spending time with others who are doing good will lift your mood too.
Sometimes the first step is the hardest one. Start small. Be brave and share a bit of yourself with others to invite connection. Start with animals and the world around you if that is easier.
If you need a little help to get started or some support right now visit the links on our home page. Remember it is all about CONNECTING...
Spending time in nature is good for you. Take time to notice the wonders around you in your own garden or even in your street. Our natural environment has much to teach us.
Play with pets and animals. Pets show us love and remind us to take a break from the things keeping us busy. caring for pets gives us purpose. Watching animals in nature reminds us that we share our world with the creatures around us.
Phone text or email a friend who you don’t see often. Or organise regular catch-ups with a friend.
Simple acts of spending time with loved ones is good for us. Have dinner with your family. Make time to do things together that are enjoyable and relaxing. remind each other of the things you value in each other.
Connecting with the things that feel right for us and enable us to be ourselves is very important for our wellbeing.
Find your culture. It might be very present already in your family and community or you might need to search for it.
Get curious about others and start a conversation. Share something about yourself to get started.
When we open up to others we make it easier for them to open up to us. When we share stories together we create belonging.
Check out this great local project that did just that.
You can start super small by being kind. Then try doing favours for a friend, maybe help with a community activity or volunteer.
Volunteers are always needed in our community.
Visit a Neighbourhood House, Men's Shed, Community Garden or one of the many markets or activities in Break O'Day.

Helping others and being generous is an act of kindness that can make a big difference to someone else.
You don't have to have money to be generous. Check out these great tips for being generous that don't cost anything.
Give the gift of a curious conversation
Ask open questions that invite someone to tell you a story. Actively listen and be curious about what they tell you. Respond carefully. Are you listening to judge, fix, solve, or jump in to “add” to the conversation? Or are you listening to learn and understand?
Being Kind
We have so much to share with you about ways to be more kind to yourself and to those around you that there is not enough room on this page. So we made a page just about kindness. We hope you enjoy it :)
Make time for things you enjoy. Give yourself the gift of moments to get completely absorbed in things. Getting in a state of flow is about being in the moment and is rewarding and powerful.
Set goals. Start small but make sure they are important to you. Think back over what you have achieved in the past. How did you do that? What strengths did you use? You can use them again. Remember a strength might be the support and encouragement of people around you.
Be realistic when setting goals and celebrate each moment that gets you closer to achieving your goal. Don't forget to reward yourself at the end too.
Sometimes we need to think about how we got to where we are before we are ready to take steps forward. What do your choices and past actions tell you about where you are heading? What hopes and permissions do you give yourself to move in a new direction?
A combination of passion and perseverance. See the things in your way as a challenge and an opportunity to grow and learn new ways of doing things.
Learning new things can be fun and can help us feel a sense of achievement. Being curious and paying attention to the world around us is an easy way to learn new things too. Learning new ways to do things will help us achieve our goals.
It is easier to commit to things and to keep doing them when they don't seem too big or too hard. Learn to create Tiny Habits for big changes. Make a healthy change with small steps that won't wear you out.
