Octo is our friendly wellbeing icon representing the different ways we can reach out to each other and look after our wellbeing.
We are always looking for new ways to bring Octo to life that can reach even more people.
Do you have ideas for Octo...?
We think this can be...
One for the way we treat others - KINDNESS
One for the LOVE we have for family and friends.
One for our PURPOSE.
Octopus can grow back tentacles and change colour to adapt to their surrounds!
We think they are RESILIENT.
Each tentacle has its own little brain. We think each one can represent a theme of wellbeing. Some ideas... COURAGE, SELF CARE, BEING POSITIVE, CONNECTION, BELONGING, LEARNING NEW THINGS, BEING IN NATURE, MINDFULNESS.
We created a set of stickers and magnets to prompt you.
In 2021 Michelle M and Leah were keen to spread messages of kindness and wellbeing. They hoped Octo's eight tentacles of wellbeing would start reaching into our community.
At the first ever Festival of Wellbeing in 2021 the Break O'Day Stitchers made it easy and fun for everyone to add a piece of material to a fabulous quilt that brought Octo to life. The stunning quilt is on display in the foyer of the Break O'Day Council office.
In 2023 Octo is becoming a painted rock sculpture that will eventually be installed at the Thrive Community Garden in St Helens. Michele R is taking pebbles and paints to community events and places for people to paint their pebble that will become be part of the collective art sculpture.
Young people and their families created a collective artwork to bring Octo to life with paints in an art workshop with local artist Dane Chisholm at Scooter Jam 2023 in St Marys. Thanks to Dane, Youth Connect North East Coast Tasmania and Break O'Day Council.
Where will Octo appear next?
A group of Octopuses is called a Consortium and yes you can say Octopuses or Octopi for more than one Octopus.
Both are correct :)
A consortium is also a group of people working together towards a common goal. Just one more reason Octo makes a fabulous wellbeing icon!
World Octopus Day is a global day to celebrate these amazing creatures. Thank you HappyDays365.
